Greater Valley Conference Play

McKay Royal Scots (OSAA #21) 2 – 1 Saxons (OSAA #8)

MCKAY: In an unfortunate turnaround from 48 hours previously, the Saxons were completely outplayed by the Royal Scots, at least the first half. It was no doubt our poorest performance of the year. The highlight for the Saxons came in the 5th minute when Sebastian chipped their keeper from about 30 yards. It was a terrific shot. As happened with us on Tuesday, the goal against seemed to energize the Royal Scots. From then on they had at least 75% of the possession. We were holding on by our fingernails, trying to make it to the half and regroup. We didn’t make it. They scored in the 32nd minute when their right winger beat our defender and sent a ball across the face of the goal, which was tapped in at the far post. It was all even at the half. In the first half they had nine shots to our five, and six corners to none for us. We changed our shape for the second half, and played a little better. Possession was still probably at least 60-40 in favor of McKay. They scored the winner in the 70th minute when their left winger beat our defender and sent a ball across the face of the goal, which was tapped in at the far post. Sound familiar? The bottom line is that our effort was not sufficient.

Man of the match honors go to Sebastian and Diego Romero Sanchez for a good effort in defense.
