The Saxon Women’s Tennis Team pulled off a big upset this afternoon, beating 2nd-ranked McMinnville, 5-3. Missing Loryn Studer, the Saxons moved sister Jillian over to the singles side, where she topped McMinnville’s Mason Short 6-0, 6-2. Senior Arianna Burtis won a three-hour, three-set thriller in the 2nd Singles position, beating Lily Elmer 7-6, 4-6, 7-5. In the 4th Singles position, freshman Mariana Rey-Rosa defeated McMinnville’s Jordan Burgess 6-1, 6-4. McMinnville’s sole Singles win came when Amy Gilliat defeated South Salem’s Olivia Webster 6-3, 6-1. On the Doubles side, South’s Chandler Wren and Megan Edelblute lost to Shay Bristow and Avari Ridgway 4-6, 2-6 while McMinnville also picked up a win in the 4th doubles position when Idhunn Stiller and Annika McMillan defeated Kelli McSween and Lindsay Flood 1-6, 6-2, 6-3. The Saxons picked up the two remaining matches as Kaitlyn Paluska and Karli Scoggins defeated Abbi Terri and Taylor Vogel 7-5, 6-3 and Selbie Christensen and Chloe Elmore beat Jaylee Sully and Annelin Stephens 7-6, 6-4. The Saxons look to finish the regular season strong against Forest Grove on Thursday at Salem Tennis and Swim Club starting at 4:00PM.
