Seniors Jillian and Loryn Studer were honored this morning as the Salem Sports and Breakfast Club Tennis Athletes of the Year. They were joined at the ceremony by their parents, Mike and Diane Studer and teammates Abby Fedor, Hannah Hersh, Lindsay Flood, and Kate Paluska.
The award comes off the heels of the duo’s 5th place finish at the OSAA Oregon State Championships last weekend. After dropping a tough 3-set match to a very skilled Clackamas team, Jillian and Loryn worked their way through the Consolation Bracket, beating teams from West Albany, Lincoln, and Roseburg. The latter, occured in the consolation championship where the sisters beat the Norlin-Prichard/Danielson pairing 6-1, 6-3.
The Studers ended the season 11-2 and their career as partners 22-4. They earned First Team All-GVC honors in the past two seasons and were named the Statesman Journal Tennis Athletes of the Year in 2016 and are nominees for the same award this year.
Jillian plans to attend George Fox University where she’ll compete on the tennis team and study Exercise Science while Loryn will head to Portland State University to study Physical Therapy.
