South Salem’s Women’s Tennis Team clinched the GVC dual-match championship yesterday afternoon, beating West Salem 8-0. The Saxons moved to 11-1 on the season, 7-1 in league play.
Abby Fedor earned another solid win, beating her opponent 6-0, 6-0 at the 1 singles spot. Hannah Leichty added a win at the 4-singles spot 6-0, 6-0 as well. At 2 and 3 singles, Esha Puri and Mariana Rey-Rosa both had stellar matches with Puri winning 6-0, 6-1 and Rey-Rosa 6-2, 6-3.
The Saxon doubles were similarly successful, led by Kellie McSween and Selbie Christensen’s win at 1 doubles, 6-1, 6-2. Janie Lapray and Catherine Hu added another win to their season, 6-1, 6-1. Meg Takara and Lucy Partridge sandwiched a 4-6 dropped set between two 6-0, 6-0 sets for their win and Maddy Hadden and Emma Hurley finished in straight sets 6-1, 6-1.
The sole varsity exhibition match featured Luciana Linares and , who won 8-0.
The Saxons head into the GVC tournament looking to add another trophy to their season. Brackets will be posted early next week.
