Volleyball and Tennis standout, Selbie Christensen (pictured left), was named the 2018 Salem Sports and Breakfast Club Female Athlete of the Year this morning at the annual awards ceremony. Christensen, who heads to Saint Mary’s College on a volleyball scholarship next year, was chosen by the local organization based on her performance in both sports this past season.
As a volleyball player, Christensen earned 4 varsity letters and All-GVC honors including Player of the Year. She was a key member of the 4th place OSAA State Championship Team where she was individually named to the All-State tournament 2nd team.
As a tennis player, she earned 3 varsity letters and was a member of the 2nd place GVC doubles team that qualified for and finished in the top 16 at the OSAA State Tournament. Her efforts helped solidify the Saxon tennis team as GVC dual-match and tournament champions.
Academically, Christensen’s a 4.0 unweighted and 4.28 weighted GPA student, and member of the National Honor Society and German National Honor Society. She’s served as the KIVA Club President and the Hiking Club President and was a 3-time DECA State finalist and National Qualifier. She plans to study Economics at Saint Mary’s where she’ll play both Indoor and Beach Volleyball.
