On Monday, South Salem swept all three games of their 2019 pre-season jamboree at Silverton High School. The Saxons played 2 innings each against Newberg, Dallas, and Silverton.
South Salem 1, Newberg 0
Noah Ferguson threw a scoreless first inning, striking out all three batters he faced. Jacob Winstead pitched the second, striking out two. The lone run came on a Kaiden Doten homerun over the left field fence in the bottom of the second.
South Salem 1, Dallas 0
The second game was much the same as the first. Danny Alvarado got his first high school appearance on the mound, striking out the side in the first inning. In the bottom of the first, Ryan Brown hit a homerun to the same location as Doten’s, giving South its lone run. Elijah Enomoto-Haole pitched the second frame and struck out two.
South Salem 2, Silverton 1
Silverton used a couple of a Saxon defensive mistakes to pick up a run without a hit in the first inning. In the top of the second, Danny Alvarado singled before Greyson Hanowell launched a ball well over 400 feet to right center field, where it pounded against the fence at the top of the berm. Hanowell ultimately ended up with a double, but it would have sailed over just about any Major League stadium fence. Kaiden Doten and Noah Ferguson followed with back-to-back RBI groundouts. Ryan Brown pitched both innings, striking out 4.
