South Salem (19-3 overall, 12-0 in League) beat West Salem 66 – 49 on Friday night. It was Senior night for South Salem and the team did not disappoint the home crowd in celebrating the 10 senior varsity players who played their last home league game ever for South Salem, but were also able to Clinch Mountain Valley Conference Championship for the second year in a row. It was a close game in the first half with West Salem going into halftime up 32 – 27. The Saxons came out in the third quarter a team on a mission. Defensively South Salem disrupted every possession West Salem had, making it nearly impossible for West Salem to get any rhythm offensively, and suffocating them on defense every inch of the floor. South Salem outscored West Salem 39 to 17 in the second half. Senior point guard Trey Galbraith, who has played over 100 varsity games for South Salem, led his team once again scoring 17 points, 7 assists, 2 steals, and an immeasurable amount of leadership on the court all game long for his team. Senior, Cole Hardy led the Saxons with 20 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals. Kieran Pruett also contributed 11 points, 3 assists, 3 rebounds, and 3 steals, 1 block for the Saxons.
