BENNETT: For those of you who suffered through last year’s South Eugene match (0-8), I hope this felt as good for you as it did for me. The Saxons took a big step forward last night, recording a win and a shutout against their strongest opponent so far. Junior midfielder Alexis Luna opened the scoring (his first Saxon Soccer goal) in the 21st minute on a through pass from junior striker Noah Diaz. Eight minutes later, senior midfielder Fernando Hidalgo headed a corner from freshman winger David Garcia Campos into the back of the net to double the Saxon lead. It was two-nil at the half. Fernando completed his brace in the 62nd minute when he intercepted a pass from their keeper to their center back and blasted it home from short range. Three-nil final score.
Man of the match honors go to Fernando.
