Tough loss for the Saxons in a very well played game on Wednesday, South falling 5-3 to the Lebanon Warriors.
This one was a pitcher’s duel between the Saxon’s Rowan Thompson and the Warriors Alivia Holden. Lebanon broke through first in the bottom of the 4th inning, taking the lead 1-0. In the top of the 5th the Saxons answered. Naomi Galanti unloaded a bomb, driving a Holden pitch far over the right centerfield fence for a solo homer, tying the game at 1-1. In the top of the 6th Alivia Benavidez drove home Desi Hatfield who had doubled. Saxons now up 2-1. Unfortunately, the Warriors answered in the bottom of the 6th, using a walk, a single, a double, and two Saxon errors, to score four and taking the lead for good. South didn’t go quietly however. In the top of the 7th Thompson went “big fly” to right center bringing the Saxons within two. A Lilly Mills single and a Hatfield walk put the tying runs on base before Holden induced a fly ball to right to end the game.
Next game for the Saxons has the South Albany Redhawks at South. Game time: 5:30.
