Saxon softball fell 8-4 to the West Albany Bulldogs on Monday, the opening day of spring sports. The Bulldogs scored 5 runs in the bottom of the first but the Saxons, who start four 9th graders and only on senior, battled and made the game close – at one point down 5-4 with runners on 2nd and 3rd and no outs but were unable to score.
Sophomore Alley Isaac pitched six innings, settling in after the first and holding the Bulldogs to three runs over the rest of the game. Makenna McCool had two hits but the hitting star of the game was 9th grader Delaney Keith. Keith hit a home run on the first pitch she saw as a high schooler and homered again in her next at bat before adding a double and single.
Next game for the Saxons: Central HS at South, 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
